Genmaicha is known as the 'People's Tea' of Japan. Fine green tea is mixed with roasted brown rice to give a warming, nutty and full flavoured brew.
The rice was added originally at a time when tea was scarce and therefore increased the number of cups per gam of tea. It also reduced the price and has now become very popular. and is drunk by all segments of Japanese society.
It is easy to drink and the combination of the freshness of the green tea and the aroma of the roasted rice makes the stomach feel better. Lovely!
